TEEN INDEPENDENCE

The sudden declaration of independence by your teens can come as a shock and develop into a battle ground, especially with boys. A great coping strategy is to create a welcoming environment for their friends. We have an open door policy where everyone is always welcome for dinner, to hang out and to sleep over, even on our living room sofas. I’d rather have them home (and my eye on them) than out who knows where. One non-negotiable rule you might want to have is that you always must know where they are. If they are going to be late or not come home for the evening, insist they call (or text) to let you know where they are.
