LEAD BY EXAMPLE

I enjoy going to the Rockshop with my teens Daniel and Alex. It’s a brief moment of togetherness when they’re at an age where all mum is good for is rides and money. They normally talk me into a little purchase.

On one occasion when I went to sign the credit card slip I noticed the sales assistant rung up a $20 set of drumsticks as $2. ‘Excuse me’, I said to them, ‘There’s a bit of a mistake. This should be $20, not $2.’ I saw Dan nudge Alex as he noticed it too.

The sales assistant was sheepish. The boys were incredulous, ‘Why’d you do that Mum’ they asked. ‘I admit it was a temptation to ignore it, but honesty
is so important. What do you think might happen to the guy behind the counter when his boss discovers his mistake?’ was my response.

Your actions, even more than your words, are critical in helping your children adopt good moral and ethical standards.
