Your Inbox Metal Filing Cabinet
Think of the chaos at home if you didn't have drawers, cupboards, closets to put your things away in. It's the same with files in your computer; emails in your inbox. Like putting your clothes in the drawers they belong in, using folders in your inbox is a stunning way to be neat and organised.

Why? Three great reasons.

1. When you need a specific email, you know exactly where it is stored instead of hunting through possibly hundreds (or thousands) of emails lined up in your Inbox.

2. Once you have set up Folders, you can drag + drop your read emails into them.

3. More importantly though, folders are invaluable when you start setting up Rules which automate your incoming emails (More on Rules in our next installment).

Quick way to create a new folder
1. Right click your Inbox folder.
2. Select New Folder
3. Follow the instructions.

Two Clever Folder Ideas!

1. Nested / Subfolders
You can nest folders within folders (I call this Subfolders).
For example if you an Inbox folder for online newsletters you receive such as the Xtra Business newletter, you can have a subfolder for ones that you have read and want to keep. To create subfolders as above, simply right click the folder you want it in. Select New Folder and follow the instructions.

2. Arranging folders the way you want them
Folders are stored alphabetically by default. However you might find that folders important to you - or ones you use all the time in your Inbox are low in the totem pole of alphabetical spelling, so you always have to scroll to get to them.Circumvent this by putting a letter or number in front of the normal folder name and it will bring it up to the top.
