Empower your staff

Customers want their problems solved, not more problems. They want results, not explanations and excuses. Do your staff have the ability to do the things customers need and expect them to do?

• Ask your staff what customers have asked them to do but that they do not have the authority to carry out.

• Look at your customer complaints to see what you can learn from them.

• Ask your customers what they would like staff to be able to do.

Sure, it’s scary giving staff more power. But it’s not as scary (or as expensive) as losing customers who then spend their time telling everyone who’ll listen what they think of your business.
